The glass bowl
The glass bowl is a misnomer. It should be the “bowl of memories”. It is a bowl filled with ticket stubs and collateral associated with places, concerts, events and various other memorable and not so memorable things in my life. Continue reading

yesterday’s tears … the “Wall”, Normandy and Louis Zamperini
I think Americans are so far removed from our service men and women that, as a result, have no emotional connection with the sacrifices they and their families make. A soldier from Connecticut was killed in Afghanistan the other day and sadly it becomes another statistic buried on page 12 of newspapers around the country. Continue reading

Brother…if you hear the song I sing
I have told the story of my mother’s letter on many occasions…or I should say two letters… that she wrote to me while I was at Marine Corps boot camp at Parris Island. She wrote them in 1968 when the Vietnam War was killing Marines by the thousands Continue reading

Justify…is it going to end?
Memorial Day has come and gone and this picture by John Moore still haunts me. The boy is 8 years old and logic dictates that his father was killed in Iraq or Afghanistan. Can someone tell me why it is … Continue reading

Playoffs … don’t talk to me about payoffs
It now becomes the “wining season” and as Vince Lombardi once said “Winning is not a sometime thing; it’s an all time thing. You don’t win once in a while, you don’t do things right once in a while, you do them right all the time. Winning is habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.” Continue reading

Le jour
The Day that boys became men … that Europe and the World prayed and hoped would come … that the check for freedom was written in blood and the day that made it possible for us to eventually experience the wonderful people and places of Normandy France…the day June 6, 1944 Continue reading

D-Day, Normandy and the “Wall”
I will soon visit the Normandy beaches and cemeteries to pay my respect to the thousands of Americans, English and Canadians that paid the ultimate sacrifice. Continue reading

72 hours to Paris
Much to my surprise, I was temporarily rejected for high blood pressure and was instructed to return in 3 months to be tested again. Thinking, while on the bus ride home, that if a few beers could raise my blood pressure to levels unacceptable for military service what would a night of pure debauchery do for me. Continue reading

Heroes and finding a Spanish gold doubloon
We all make the mistake of asking friends and family “how was your vacation?” and then we cringe when the response is “I just happen to have ‘a few’ pictures … ” and then you can’t get away fast enough. … Continue reading

Just thinking again … again
“I can’t stop thinking like this”…Steven Wright … and we’re worried that the Red Sox won’t make the playoffs and who will make the cut on Dancing with the Stars. We are able to enjoy the “stress” of both because of … Continue reading
